Applications are now being accepted to establish an eligibility list for limited term part-time police officer position(s) for 2012. These are sworn officer position(s) which will consist of street and water patrol. Applicants hired must be available for field training for approx. 40 hours per week starting approx. 02/06/12 through approx. 03/31/12. After 03/31, those hired must be available to work 8-24 hours per week until approx. 05/27/12. Then starting 05/28/12, those hired will be required to work at least 40 hours per week through 09/04/12. Persons who will not be totally available as described above for any day or time of day should not apply, and it is expected that persons hired are committing to work as described through 09/04/12.
SALARY & BENEFITS: It is likely that limited term officer(s) in these positions will be paid at least the 2011 pay rate of $11.00 per hour during field training, and then $15.00 per hour after that, but these rates may be slightly higher. These positions do not qualify for fringe benefits.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be at least 20 years of age; United States citizen; high school graduate; Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board certified, or certifiable by 12/31/11; possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record; be of good moral character; good physical condition and have the mental and physical ability to perform the essential functions of a police officer including the ability to possess a firearm and to use all standard police equipment, techniques and use of force options; no felony or domestic abuse convictions; vision correctable to 20/20; good verbal and written communication skills; able to works evenings, weekends and holidays, and as described above. Preference will be shown to applicants who have law enforcement experience; have post high school education, especially in a law enforcement related field; or have the ability to speak a foreign language, especially Spanish.
