TORNADO & SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK

April 11- 15, 2011

The actual drill will be on Thursday, April 14, 2011

(Baraboo) This campaign is to remind residents of the dangers associated with tornadoes, thunderstorms, flooding, and hail. Sauk County residents are encouraged to take protective safety measures such as developing a personal preparedness plan and putting together a disaster supply kit. Information can be found on the Sauk County website http://www.co.sauk.wi.us under Emergency Management.

The drill will be staggered across the State of Wisconsin to reflect realistically that only a few counties receive a warning at any given time.

The statewide mock tornado WATCH will be declared at 1:00 p.m.

The mock tornado WARNING for Sauk, Columbia, Marquette, and Dane Counties will be from 1:20 - 1:25 p.m.

If severe weather is present on the 14th, the drill will be held on Friday, April 15th, or cancelled if there is actual severe weather.

The drill will officially end at 2:00 p.m. for the State of Wisconsin. In Sauk County, the drill will end at 1:30 p.m. for the purpose of returning to normal activities. As always, the sirens will not sound for the watch nor will there be an announcement of the end of the drill.

We encourage everyone to test their plans and NOAA weather radios during this drill. The Milwaukee Sullivan NOAA website is http://www.crh.noaa.gov/mkx/. Current weather, safety brochures and teaching aids can be pulled from this site.
