“Adopt-A-Hydrant” Program

The Lake Delton Water Utility is again this year asking residents and community businesses to adopt their neighborhood fire hydrants.  They can do this by clearing accumulated snow from the top and around the hydrants near their homes, places of business or employment.

Snow removal around all the system fire hydrants is the responsibility of the Water Utility employees, but due to the snow fall we have already received, the plow trucks and the forecasted winter storms, all of the Village hydrants have or will become buried.  It will be sometime before Glen or I can reach all the hydrants in the system and then by then there may be another storm.

By taking a few minutes to clear your “Adopted” hydrants, you will be assisting both the Lake Delton Water Works and the Delton Fire Department.

           The house you save might just be your own!

In the event of a fire emergency during the winter, could the volunteer Delton firefighters find the hydrant near your home?
Or does it get buried under a snow pile from the snow plows?

Last year the Village encouraged residents to "adopt a fire hydrant' near their home or business by keeping the snow shoveled away from it during the winter season. This will ensure hydrants are visible and will greatly speed the response time in case of an emergency. Please don't let your neighborhood hydrant remain "under cover". There is no need to notify the Village about a hydrant you have adopted, as this is an informal volunteer program. Your help is appreciated.
